PC Perspective has published a quick one page review of the Ultra-branded power supply tester. This unit that can be found for under $20 is an easy method to test for simple problems with power supplies. For anyone who has built numerous systems this accessory might be worth the cash.
The specs are quite simple as you would imagine, with an audible beep that lets you know whether or not the power supply has powered up. If you hear the beep the power supply has indeed powered up, if not and you have it connected to a wall outlet and have any switch that might apply powered on, then it sounds like you need a new PSU.

Good stuff, those Ultra power supply testers.
    I've got this one....... http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2237
Never do a build without using it. Might get the newer one too.
For those of you that are new to building your own systems.
This is a very good thing to have and use, even if it's a new power supply! Test it.
I've had 2 power supplys that were bad and caused untold damage after shorting out.
