Intel will be pushing their Core product across the board, starting with naming the new desktop series Core 2. Intel will also adjust its existing Extreme Edition "EE" line by simply placing Core 2 in front of the Extreme and by eliminating the Edition.

Core 2 Extreme will actually become the first Conroe processor to launch, followed immediately by Core 2 Duo E6700 -- as outlined by Intel's most recent desktop roadmap. Merom and Conroe are both based on 65nm process designs with shared L2 cache and aggressive power management. Conroe and Merom will both be backwards compatible with recently manufactured desktop and mobile motherboards.

Sigh... I miss the naming conventions sans marketing.

"Pentium 4 XGHz" made sense. What the hell is a Core 2 Duo E6700? Just gives the Best Buy pushers more words to throw at unwitting consumers looking at PCs.

The Best Buy pushers hate it more than the customers do.

I'm not sure the customers know enough to hate it.

I actually have come to like AMD's rating system, but Intels is just plain stupid, I mean what the ****.
