Sony president Kaz Hirai, announces Sony's PS3 to come in two configurations, 20GB hard drive-equipped version to cost $499, 60GB hard drive-equipped model to go for $599.
At today's pre-E3 conference held at Sony Pictures Studios, two questions that have been on gamers minds were answered. Sony president Kaz Hirai revealed the PlayStation 3's price and launch date. The PS3 will be released in Japan on November 11, and the United States on November 17, 2006. Like the Xbox 360, the PS3 will come in two configurations, one with a 20GB hard drive and one with a 60GB hard drive.

$100 extra dollars for 40 extra gigs? That's absolutely bonkers.

Wait a minute... $500 for a console system?!!?!!

I don't care how powerful it is, that's ridiculous.

All the articles they've had on the Blu-Ray drive have indicated that those puppies won't be cheap to make. I read somewhere that the production cost of just the drive is over $300. Sony will have to heavily subsidize the console until they bring the production cost down.

They will try make it up with the cost of the games. So hold onto your hats when they announce the price of those.

I still want a PS3 more than I want a 360 or Wii, but I think I'll wait for a killer app for PS3 before I drop that chunk of change. In the meantime, I've got plenty of games for PS2 and PC to keep me busy while I chuckle at the early adopters :D

How does Nintendo lose? I know quite a few people wanting it, especially after I showed them the price of the PS3, if that's any indication of things to come I really think the Wii system will become quite popular... to me it's not the awsome graphics that matter, I wanna have some damned fun in a game too... not too many games are doing it for me lately. But I just got the Gamecube and damn it's a blast!

The only console I ever play anymore is the GC. I plan on getting the new Nintendo also. There is a big following, Nintendo is not going anywhere. Neither is Sony or Microsoft. They have large enough followings to stick around too.

Well...look at it this way. Sony could have named it Peen to go with the Wii.

"Mom, Sally wants to come over and play with Dad's Peen."

"No Bobby..your dad is playing with his Peen right now. You two can play with your Wii."

Just think of the f--d up house holds that would make...eh?

I don't own any Microsoft platforms but I've only ever had that problem on Nintendo hardware: rumble pack (N64), RAM expansion (N64), external light (GBA), composite A/V cable (SNES), exotic controllers (NES) and so on. It gets worse very rapidly if you're a Pokemon addict.

In comparison, the only Sony accessories I've shelled out for are the S-Video and component video cables and the vertical stand for my slim PS2.

What's up with them renaming the rev to Wii?
"Hey, Bob, wanna come to my house and play with my wii?"

That’s funny for about 5 sec's, as I think of it I have never invited my buddies over to say “hey come on over and play with my PS2, Xbox etc…”. I can think of “hey want to come to the house and game”. I think people are getting a little to judgmental over a name. I mean look at Google, what was that name and where did it come from, now it is a household name. I think it is interesting the things people whine about, and if a name ever made someone not buy something that is just pathetic. “expressing my opinions”

Actually, Google is the largest named number. Or atleast it was till I was in 4th Grade. I guess Google named it that to show that thier searches bring back infinite (large amounts, not never-ending) results. I didn't say I wouldn't buy it because of the name, just because I've never been a big fan of Nintendo. What I was trying to say was Nintendo Revolution sounds so much better, why not leave that way?

    It's actually spelled googol.

In a sense, Nintendo made a good move in changing the name. It generated A LOT of talk about their console.

Hehehehe, I'll buy a PS3 if any enough games I want for it come out. Otherwise, I'll be gaming on my PC.

    BINGO we have a winner!

When a console costs as much as a small computer...wtf?!
