access 2003 and exchange 5.5 interface?

If I set up an access 2003 database will I be able to set a script or whatever to send an email useing the MS outlook app? I am very unfamiliar with the program and am coming to the best source I know of. Google yielded very little useful information. (I have been tasked to find this out, so any help would be greatly appreciated.)
