Bios Issues

edited June 2006 in Hardware
Ok, I am new to overclocking. However i have learned alot recently, thanks to lemonlime for the fantastic guide!

Now, that i have just built my pc, the specs are below, I wanted to start overclocking the cpu. However for some reason, something is being lost in the translation between the bios and the cpu, if i change the htt bus in the bios to 215 MHz (which would result in my cpu being at 2150MHz) then i will go "Save Changes and Exit"...Windows boots up fine, everything is working, i open up cpu-z only to find that my cpu freq. is still at 2000MHz!

I know that it is only the cpu variables in the bios that don't work because if i change the mem. freq. to 166MHz, that is still the case in windows.

Also, i have had alot of things suggested to me, but none of them have worked, so to not get any repeat suggestions, here is what i have tried:

-Increases the voltage (silly at 215 i know, but im willing to try anything at this point)
-Cool N Quite does not even go on or off, because the bios is not properly interacting with the bios...but it was already set to disabled
-I have updated to the latest Bios

Btw here are my system's specs:
-AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice (2.0 Ghz)
-Asus A8N5X nForce 4
-Antec Smartpower 450w
-Kingston Valueram 2gb DDR400

Any help, would be greatly appreciated, even if your suggestions dont work, id still be getting somewhere.

In the BIOS try setting to the following:

    Advanced Tab >

    CPU Configuration>

    DRAM Configuration>
    Max Memclock = DDR333
    1T / 2T Memory Timing = 1T
    CAS# laterncy (Tcl) = Auto
    RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd) = Auto
Min RAS# active time (Tras) = Auto
Row precharge Time (Trp) = Auto
    Master ECC Enabled = Disabled

    Hyper Transport Frequency = 4

    AMD Cool'n'Quiet control = Disabled

    JumperFree Configuration >
    Oveclock Profile = Manual
    CLU Frequency = 220
    PCI Express Clock = 100MHz
    DDR Voltage = 2.7V
    CPU Multiplier = x10
    CPU Voltage = AUTO

    Then "Save and Exit"

I did what you suggested (as I too have an A8N5X . . . NewEgg was showing all the MSI boards as VIA when I was purchasing and rather than risk getting something VIA had their hands on, I purchased ASUS). My CPU is the Opteron 165, though, so my multi is 9. I set the PCI to 33.33, 1T/2T I set to 2T, and RAM I set to 2-4-4-8 (rated for 2-3-2-6 @ DDR400). I had no master ECC setting in the BIOS. I have the latest A8N5X BIOS. Any ideas why I cannot O/C my CPU?

Make sure that the floppy drive is enabled and that floppy drive seek is turned on.

Ok, I'll try . . . even though I have no floppy drive.
I'll post back in a few minutes and let you know if it worked.

Sorry, don't turn on floppy seek, just make sure it's set as if there is a floppy drive.

Thank you so very much. It works. Gripes about no floppy connected and I had to hit F1, but turning off floppy seek should fix that.

    Thanks again!
