Game delivery has followed this trend and made a number of advances in the past few years.
Rather than purchasing games on CD or DVD customers now have access to direct downloads from retailers as well as online services so that the games can be had without ever leaving their home. All it takes to do this is a broadband connection and a credit card, so for most gamers, things could not be easier. The most successful implementation of this has been Steam, the service from Valve Software. This system exploded in popularity because it is the best way to get access to Half Life 2, as well as play Counter Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source online.

    I still don't like steam. I don't care if I can burn a CD of the god damn files. I want a factory-stamped CD/DVD.

I LOVE steam, and the whole on-demand concept. I am SO sick of CDs / DVDs, disc swapping, worrying about scratches, moving games around to different computers, etc.

I agree completely! I find myself wishing Battlefield 2 used Steam. The only thing that could be improved is offering a bigger discount for prepurchasing games. Maybe like 20% instead of 10% :)

I love Steam too, and I think it's great that Atari made a deal with Valve to distribute some of their classics with them.

I also think Thrax is a whiney wah-wah and loves to complain.
