OK, I have an XPS notebook that crashed.. UH OH cause I was retarted and slacked on my backups.. It's clearly the HD.. I have a 2.5" to IDE adapter.. My pc recognizes and correctly identifies the drive in setup.. Windows does not assign a drive letter.. I need 1 time sensetive file and the rest is all imaged.. Any ideas? Jumper is at cable select on the 2.5" which is the only setup recognizable setting and Master on the PC HD.

you can try having only that drive connected and boot into BartPE or WinPE just to see if the drive is seen there, ive had alot of good experiances with BartPE. In fact thats how i recover stuff at work

Did you check the Windows Volume Manager to be sure Windows can see the drive at all? If you have and it reports that it cannot see a partition, that means all the data on the drive is shot.

...unless a program like TestDisk can save him. :)
