Adding a new IDE HDD to a server.

edited May 2006 in Hardware
I have a DELL PowerEdge 2600 server which is running out of disk space. I want to add a 300GB IDE HDD to the server and use it to store old files which might need to be accessed once a year.

DELL support told me that is not possible as the IDE ports are only for CDRoms and tape drives.

Is this "normal"?

    Normal? No. Possible? Yes.

Worst case senereo is you need to get a PCI IDE controller card and put the extra drive on that.
