media player issues

Ok i Dl all the service pack in Windows. I got WM 10, this lap top has a dvd plaer/cd burner .... when i try to play a dvd it tells me codec not found. On th ewindows site they are saying i need to buy them, This is a full version of windows. and the dvd was wrokin b4 when the machine has 2000 professional on it.

I tried quicktime still does the same, and ive tried divx.

There are no errors in my device manager please help guys...

    ok, after I sorted through all the mangeled jiberish, acronyms, and spelling I think that I may know what your problem is.

    But first, lets start with a few questions.

    If the DVD you are trying to play a a commercial legal copy that was bought from a store?

    Depending on this answer will change the path that I take to get you watching movies.

    The answer to this post is easy.

    Download Media Player Classic or VLC and use that to play DVDs instead of Windows Media Player.

    WMP requires a paid DVD codec to decode movies, whereas the programs above can do it for free, legally.

    it is built in, so yeah its all legal., I will try the classic. or the other you listed

    Yes all the dvd's are legal, ive tried everything from my kids DvD's to irobot :|

    yeh, I have never tried to play a dvd in wmp, I use nero show time, I didnt know they wanted you to pay for a codec, f' that.
