Format SATA HDD

Good day. I have problem with SATA HDD Maxtor MaxLine III 250GB. BIOS and WinXP Home Edition have found it but WinXP was unable to format it and
also he couldn't create the partition on it. WinXp has shown this error:
Driver has found error on controller unit on \Device\Harddisk1\D.
My motherboard is ASUS K8N-E
I don't what I have to do. Please, could you help me?? Thank you for your help.

    Sounds like you may need to update your SATA Controller drivers.
