windows xp pro password help!
I really really dont know if you guys will be able to help me on thsi one.
I decided in my wisdom to allow my nephew to set up another windows account on XP Pro as i everyone was using my account - this is the only account that is on there.
we decided that he would set up another account and i would password protect my account as it has some work stuff on there.
Anyway to cut a long story short, and as far as i can figure he has gone into 'control panel' 'administirative tools' 'computer management' and then i'm not too sure what hes done! From what he says he has gone into my acount and ticked a box for 'change password' it promted him to restart/log on so he shouted me up at this point.
It asked me to put in the old password and seta new one up. The issue being i do not know what the original password was!
He says that there were 2 account in there, the administrator one and mine (i can only take his word for this) he ahs ticked th same box for the accounts
I have no idea what i would of set the password to either, i have tried all the sual ones i would of used, but seeing as i installed the windows disk over 12 months ago it could be anything!
All i get now is a screen asking me to input current password and 2 fields to set new password, and to confirm it.
I have spoken to microsoft who said they cannot assist me,andpointed me in the direction of their support website which basically says if i dont know the password i will have to do a clean install. This is something i really dont want to do as i have so much stuff on my pc that i dont want to loose!
Sorry for this thread being so long, and sorry for me being so stupid too! lol
I am at work at the moment so would be greatful if anyone can point me in the direction of any good advice tha i can try when i get home?
Thanks in advance

Thinking back to day one when you set up the system to begin with do you remember ever having designated a password?
If you never set a password and select the password protected box on your account in user accounts utility your password is blank. Meaning you just enter an empty box.
I lived in a shared house for awhile and did this with my guest account, it has a tendency to fool people into thinking they have to enter characters.
Try just entering what you want your password to be in both the lower boxes leaving the top one empty.
Also, you should really consider setting up other users accounts yourself and not allowing everyone you will share your system with have admistrative priviledges. If you were to set up your nephew as a user only you could place limitations on how much damage he could accidentally cause your system with internet trash and crappy downloads.
Nothing against your nephew just your only sure way to protect the data you wish to protect is to protect your whole system and maintain control of where its going and what it's doing.
If this concept is a bit above your head the folks here are way more than helpful and would always be willing to help further your knowlege.
My nephew is currently studying for exams has been coming round to my house to use my pc for revision coursework etc as he has 4 brothers and sisters running around, plus i am hardly home so he gets peace and quiet.
He isnt usualluy there, but he will be there quite a lot over the next few weeks, so i thought it was best to add a new user account for him to use then he wouldnt be able to access my work stuff.
There was only ever one log on, when the pc booted up it didnt ask for anything, just allowed you to access it straight away.
I cant remeber entering a password and have tried leaving it blank too, but this doesnt work! I have also tried emtering all the usual things i would use as a password but none of them seem to be working either.
Im getting a little worried now, i have a presentation on thursday and need the stuff from my pc asap, my own fault i suppose for keeping it all in one place, but i am beginning to panic!
Thnaks for the advice tho! much apreciated.
