WTB Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 - 3.0

edited June 2006 in Trading Post
I'm looking to buy an older WRT54GS v1.1 - 3.0, these are the ones with 8MB of flash and 32MB of RAM. I'm sure most people are not willing to give one of these babies up, but I'm willing to pay. If anyone is interested or knows where I can get one of these, please let me know.

//EDIT: To be SM DDTP compliant I can be reached at either:

authorityaction AT gmail DOT com
authority AT fusionxlan DOT com

I hope that's ok since my profile email is the gmail one. Let me know if I need to change anything.

Psst. You can purchase 1-3.0s at Best Buy, and if you're unlucky and get a v5, you can return it in 15 days for a cash refund.

I will have to go look at Best Buy as soon as I'm off this vicodin. You can read the version on the outside of the box though, can't you? Thanks for the help though Thrax, I haven't been to BB in a very long time..

Unfortunately, the version can only be read from the black and silver sticker affixed to the bottom of the unit itself. I will say, however, that the WRT54GS models seem to have a higher probability of being v1-3.

I thought they had the serial # on the outside of the box? anyway, you could always do a little "product inspection", people did it all the time at kmart, and we couldnt do anything unless they took something out of the box and even then, unless they left the store with it we couldnt do anything about it. Im sure if you told them you were looking for a certain version they wouldnt be to upset.

yeh, I want the version 3 or less WRT54GS. hope I can find one. might have to take my chances on ebay if nothing else. AA, do you have the list of serial # codes for the versions written down? im sure you do. I'm hoping that you find one!! Although if you dont its cool, its just another toy for me to play with. and finaly one that is reasonably cheap. This may be the cheapest purchase I've made in a long time, after all the car stereo crap. Which reminds me, I have to call ups tommorow, those bastards never delivered my sound deadener, and its been like 3 weeks. If they lost it im gonna be pissed, then I will have to go through a bunch of bs to get it replaced huh? or do they consider it as "**** happens" when a package is lost and that leaves me as sol?

Thrax mate, you can tell the version number by looking at serial number sticker on outside of the box.

Yeh, the ones at wmart were CGN7.

and Jomborae, you really want to stay with version 3 and below, because at version 4, they cut the ram in half I believe.

I would if I could but I can't ;) No version 3's are available anymore, new. Plus as I run DD-WRT firmware I don't need the extra ram.

I did make it to BB today, all they had was one v4 and all the others were v5. I checked every box.

Maybe this is a sign I should just save my money :grumble:

Opps actually it is just the WRT54G V2 not the GS.

not sure if it is still desireable or not but I'm not using it and I really don't need it.

    Make an offer if interested.

    Thanks

what is the difference between the 54G and 54GS?

The "S" denotes speedbooster technology, which is improved packet compression and frame-bursting for an (Up to) 30% performance improvement over traditional 11g devices. Practical improvement is 11-17%.
  • airbornflghtairbornflght Houston, TX Icrontian
    edited June 2006
yeh, but the speed booster only works if you have compatible devices on the other end.

    pm sent.

Went on ebay, and the guy is nuts!!, there are only a few on there that I want to even look at, and the guy wants $70 just for the router, and the $30 to ship it. Is that guy off of his rocker, he needs to re-evaluate what he is selling, no one is gonna pay $70 for a used router, not to mention $30 to ship it..hah!!, the router might be worth $40 tops used. That guy is a rip off.:skeptic:

is there that big of a difference. I am aware it has like half the ram and flash memory, but for a simple setup for a total of 3 laptops do you think it'll be that significant

No, it doesnt really matter, at least I dont think that it would. Maybe if there was a lot of heavy traffic consuming a lot of bandwidth, but otherwise, I would say no.
