"Connected" - But not recieving any packets?!?

edited June 2006 in Science & Tech
Heya folks,

Really hoping someone here can help me out, as i need to get my new network running ASAP.

I moved in with a couple of friends who currently run a linksys wireless AP for their laptops. I wish to connect to it with my PC.

I purchased a Wireless G D-link Adapter for my PC, and I seem to be able to connect to the network just fine.

However, I cannot recieve packets, and therefore do anything on the net - also the signal strength seems suspiciously low... my friends have no issues with this anywhere within the house.

Some info:

We are using WEP encryption, 64bit, I have tried both of our available keys/nodes.

My system is Windows XP SP1.

I am using D-link's included software to configure and connect to the wireless network, also tried windows default - no luck.

Anyone have any clue what could be wrong?

Well first of all, "Connected" is one thing, you're IP may say another... dunno why but sometimes you can have a 169.x.x.x address and yet be "Connected" where you should be labeled as Limited or no connectivity. So what is your IP?
