Keep Losing Internet Connection

Hi and thanks for any advice/help you can provide.

Basics: (Main computer)
Windows XP
Dell Dimension 8200
Motorola Cable Modem
Linksys –Wireless –G Broadband Router
Model: WRK54G V2

Recently (about a month ago) I changed my home network from a Linksys 4 port BEFSR41 router with a Linksys Wireless Network Access Point to the current model above, a 4 port wireless router.

My original system worked extremely well but I wanted to add some external storage and needed additional ports. So I purchased the new router. The problem is that I keep losing my Internet connection. I rarely lost the connection in the old set-up.

I am running 2 desktops and up to 3 laptops at a time. I have changed the channels on the router from 6 to 11 but still have the same issue. I have WEP encryption enabled. My network speed and signal is excellent. The firmware on the router is the latest version. I have also noticed the network seems slower but when I run a test is shows it is running well. Any thoughts?

Thanks again for the help.

How many computers are going offline? All of them? Or just one? You need to isolate the issue....in other words, is it the modem or the router?

    Hi there,
I've been having a similair problem that began around a week ago. I have a BEFSR41 as well with a PC (XP pro) & laptop (XP home). Recently, the laptop crashed and I could not get into Windows. I reinstalled Windows at that time on the laptop. I'm unsure if that has anything to do with the loss of connection. The way to resume the connection I go into the Router's settings , release the DHCP and then get a new one. I have to do this every few minutes sometimes.
Funny thing though, I was Skyping with a friend yesterday for close to an hour and didn't have any problems.
I've upgraded the firmware on the router as well as the driver for my network card. I don't know if the problem is the OS or the router. It's weired that this only started happening a week ago.

I've googled the problem and have read posts going back to 2002 but haven't seen any resolutions.

Let me know if you find a solution.
