I'm trying to run my regedit from my run option in my start menu but all it does is flash a dos screen that goes away soon as it pops up.

Try typing 'cmd' and hitting enter. That will open a permanent DOS screen that will let you see what message the system is responding with (instead of disappearing right away)

Also you can check that the Environment Variables, has the proper path to the
directory C:\Windows and C:\Windows\system32
You find it here
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Environment Variables
Regedit.exe is located in C:\Windwos
Regedt32.exe is located in C:\Windows\system32
Here is the copy of the path settings in my PC
%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem
Note. There should be no space in the \System\Wbem
