Annoying "Windows Has Encountered An Error" Message!

This has been happening to me for the past few days. Every time I try to do some of the simplest things on my pc, such as try to open a folder to listen to music or whatever, this messages pops up saying Windows has encountered a problem and needs to restart, well, not actually to the point where it reboots but more like it stays on to reload again, and it happens a few times in a row until it stops doing that. I've had this pc since December of 2002, till now, it's been good for the most part and I'm wondering on what the problem could be? I need a new pc? A new install of XP? This is really getting me p.o'd:banghead: any help is always appreciated!
