Firefox problem installing themes.

Hope someone can help me with this. Been using Firefox for a while now and decided today that I wanted a new theme, so off I toddled to addons.mozilla.org... however whenever I try to install a theme I get a warning 'Software installation is currently disabled. Click Edit Options.....to enable it and try again'. Clicking Edit Options takes me to the options screen. ON this screen I've tried everything I can think of. I've unticked 'warn me when websites try to install extensions and themes' with no luck, tried again with that ticked and addons.mozilla.org added to the exceptions list still no luck, tried it with Java / Javascript enabled and disabled..... I just can't get it to work. Anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? It's firefox 1.5.0.4 btw.
edit: Also, while we're on the subject of firefox does anyone know of an extension or anything that will let me auto-refresh a specific page in the browser if (and only if) it's been idle for a certain period of time?

If you get the message 'software installation is disabled, please click 'edit options' to enable it' when you try to install a theme but then there's nowhere in edit options to disable this feature you can fix it by:
type about:config in the address bar (this brings up firefox's settings)
find 'xpinstall.enabled' in the settings (use the filterbox to make it easier)
set it to 'true'
ta-da!
