Well, I got my DV8000t today. I guess its ok. I wish I had listen to my gut instinct and gotten the 1680x1050 screen instead of the ultra brightview at a lower rez. It seems to function ok other than an annoying click in the left arrow key while I am playing World of Warcraft. The graphics in WoW are awesome. I have almost everything turned to max and still get 40-60fps. A vast improvement over the old notebook. I dont really notice any speed difference in the system. Going from a 3ghz with an IDE HD to a 1.73 duo core with an SATA HD I figured I would notice something but didnt. Just figured I would post an update since I had so many questions.
Are you experiencing any weird split second freezes when playing WoW or any game? My system pauses for just a fraction of a second, barely noticeable, but annoying. Seems to happen when a new sound is being played.
Actually yeah. Occasionally Ill get a graphic freeze. I figured it was due to the settings all being turned up or something. The fps will drop to about 27 when it happens though. Youre right its about as annoying as the damn clicking left arrow key
So it happens for a splilt second, then goes to normal, correct?
now tha ti think about it on WoW it does it.....like locks up for a sec then goes to normal...i just thought it was lag :? becasue my signal stangth goes up and down from Very Good to Low for some reason sometimes, and if im closer to the roter like in the room next to it im fine and dont have those problems, it only occurs in WoW though, Counter-Strike Source im fine hints why i think it has to do with my signal going up and down and Lag on the WoW servers, i didnt notice an FPS drop though but ill look (titan bar FTW!)
are u guys running wireless? or hardline to Internet
Im on Wireless. I installed some third party drivers earlier and didnt notice it doing it. I have most of my ingame settings near to max and still get 40-60fps
Although after the 3rd party drivers i did notice other things it did. First off the vid card in these notebooks run hotter when youre not doing anything due to the fact the fan doesnt hardly kick on. I noticed mine idling at 65c but while playing WoW it droped to 55-58c. Weird isnt it. Completely assbackwards from how its suppose to be lol. I also noticed when youre running around in WoW the graphics dont truly scroll by smoothly. I checked with my PC too which as 6800gt in it and it does the same so its either the game or inherint to nvidia. Im going to attempt to call HP and see if they cant put out a different bios that makes the fan come on more often. Would be a shame to kill the video card while doing nothing for lack of air to it lol.
The glitches I have dont seem to be lag related. I changed out my drivers to the 84.56 from tweaksrus but it doesnt make the run scroll any smoother. I am now at a loss on what to do to rectify that issue. The temp with the new drivers seems better though as Its about 54-55 idle and 70c under a load. if I could just make my graphics smoother it would be perfect. I mean hell Im getting 60fps lol
I dont have issues in the couple of other games I have looked at. Although Guild Wars does glitch once in a while but that could just be GW. As for WoW I have learned that my jittery scrolling when I run around is due to the game. The game apparently has issues with duo core CPUs. Now I just have an issue with heat while running the game. I am not honestly sure what is a normal temp for the 7600go under a load but mine is running 72-78c while playing WoW. So if someone knows for sure what is considered normal it would be great.
Mine seems to be doing the split second lag spikes when a new sound that hasn't been played yet, is being played. So I'm trying to figure out how to troubleshoot that.
Ever since I ordered my dv8000t I have been mulling over what to do about audio. I'm a serious audiophile and my desktop has a high end PCI audio board in it that I used as a preamp run to my home audio setup.
Gaming and 5.1/7.1 sound really aren't important to me. I'm not much of a gamer, and what little gaming I do is done on an Xbox 360. I don't plan to watch DVDs on the notebook, since I have a home theater for that.
But high quality music playback on the PC is very important to me. I was wondering if there is anyone here who has used anything other than a Soundblaster cardbus solution with their notebook.
I am seriously thinking of getting the Echo Indigo IO Cardbus soundcard and pair that up to a set of Sennheiser HD 650 audiophile headphones for the road. The nice thing about this setup is I can use it with either of my notebooks.
If you found yourself in the same situation regarding high quality music playback on your notebook I very much would like to hear from you.

I'm a pro musician with nearfield reference monitors.
Go with the echo indigo, you can thank me later.
E-bay great prices
creative labs can't touch it.
See if it seems to be caused by audio being played when it hasn't previously been played that session. That seems to be causing mine...and I already tried reinstalling.
I have to say it was worth every penny, the thing attracks most of the dust and lint off my laptop every time I pull it off, I hardly ever have to wipe it down... It’s like a miracle product.
The coolest thing is once you dust the screen a few times feel free to beat the cover a bit to make it clean again.. kind of like a carpet It also helps if your not moving your PC and want to keep dust out of your keyboard when your not using it... just lay it over the leys and walla! no more dust. lol i sound like a commercial
Hey there sledgehammer!
I've been following this thread, and i found your recomendation for this product ShaggyMac
I already purchased a dv8000t from HP, but I don't have it here with me yet , so I can't measure it.
Could you tell me wich width and depth values should I choose?
Reading through this whole post, I found that there are problems if I want to put another HD, because a missing piece, and it's a lot of trouble getting HP to give you the piece, Is there a workaround to get a second HD on this laptop?
can somebody help me...
i want to get a good laptop, and i was thinking of this one. But i want to be able to play some games like battlefield 2 and counterstrike. i will soon be able to buy this computer but i want to know if its getting too old, and i should look for a newwer laptop that would be able to play games.
Go through until you find the post I made on how to get the refresh rate set up for it. (For some reason they come running at 59hz, but you can easily change it over to 60hz... not a big deal.)
If you do get this laptop I highly recommend that you uninstall Norton Internet Security and get AVG Free. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 - As Norton Internet Security really bogs down the system... it will cause random FPS drops in games and skipping in music.
Also, if you want this system for gaming you will have to go with Intel's CPU as HP doesn't offer a good combo. of graphics with an AMD CPU (Sadly...)
A few pages back, it was stated that the dv8000t will only run at 533Mhz 2ith a T2600 and not at 667Mhz.. I want to lay that rumor to rest with Intels new CPU utility. it tells you what your CPU is currently running at and what it can support. here is a screenshot
I would like to thank you for your review of the dv8000t
It was most helpful in my decision to purchase it earlier tonight.
it is a replacment for my zv5000 ( I dropped it 2 inches and the screen went dead) as I type now looking at external monitor from
670BC I cannot wait for that sucker to show its lovely shell
I am sure I will be asking questions in the future, you all seem to be very helpful to one another here so to all I say hello
so now I just wait and ponder, what should I do with this no screen laptop I have now when the new one shows up in a week or ten days?
thanks and I look forward to reading more and making a couple friends along the way.

Ypus hould be able to buy a replacement for the broken screen... just give HP a call and find out how much it is... If you don't want to deal with it I am sure soemone would be intrested in buying the laptop off of you.
My dv8000t was delivered about four hours ago. Right now I am busy migrating data and installing my applications.
I have taken some pictures of the laptop in the xb2000 Expansion Base and will upload them to my website later and link to them in a follow-on post. But I have a lot of setup to do yet and probably won't tinker around too much until later this evening.

Hi, Jerome. I just received my DV8000t last Monday (and I ordered it based on "Sledge's" review - a great one) . My xb2000 Expansion Base arrived Friday (I didn't order it from HP).
Well I feel so stupid, but I simply cannot get the expansion plug of the xb2000 into the expansion port2 of the DV8000t. What am I doing wrong? I can get both ends to meet, but nothing "goes in" to anything else. Apparently a lot of people have trouble because there's lots of chatter on the Web, but few answers.
I called HP, but the person who answered couldn't understand what I was saying - have any suggestions, besides what a stupid old woman (74 years old)? It is very difficult for me to lug both pieces of equipment at one time and the HP tech said I should take it to Best Buy and have them show me -- and I didn't even tell him I was an old woman!
i could not figure out how to start a topic/and maybe this has been talked about already??
any suggestions for a docking station for my yet to arrive dv8000t
from the last post and others I have talked to/read about
the hp2000 is not that good and it is wobbly is the 3000 newer/better? and is there a non hp product that is better that will be compatible? also one other question I have is I hear all this talk about cooling this and cooling that, can I not just open the thing/dv8000t out of the box and use it?? i never did anything special with my zv5037wm I just used it plugged in for years the screen died, but I dropped it 3 inches yep 3 inches, but I guess it was 3 to many.
the rest still works I am typing this with external monitor.
got a great deal on the 8000 can't wait for em to ship it my fingers are shaking in an-t-i-s-i-p-a-t-i-o-n..... LOL
sledge, I hope all is well, could you tell me if you think this was a good deal, I know very little really when it comes to computers
but this is what I picked, and should I have done it diff in your opinion?

hi ppl. i've stumbled upon this forum just yesterday when i was looking for a dv8000t review.
i need some expert opinions about a few things.
1. should i go for the ultra bright or not? coz from the picture posted, seems like the ultra bright is significantly brighter.
2. should i go for that extra .16ghz which cost another 175$ or not?
3. i think i'll go for the 80gb 5400rpm and buy an upgrade outside. how easy is it to upgrade a hard drive? and would the one i buy (from newegg mostlikely) be compatible?
4. should i go for the standard warranty or purchase a 3 year warranty, i'm low on the budget and i won't bother getting an extended warranty coz laptop prices fall rapidly these days. is it a wise thing to do?
that's all. all answers are very much appreciated.

I was told the wx screen the middle one on there order page is the best looking, the ultra has 2 lamps, not really needed, thats the one I got, as for your upgrade you are geting a new computer IMHO let them put it in, also do what I did i googled hp coupon codes did a little surfing and found a coupon for $250.00 bucks off and it worked!!! next a friend told me to call within an hour of placing the order and ask to cancel it, they ask why I said i found a cheaper sony
they said what if I take off $100.00 bucks I said well i can still get it cheaper make it $150.00 so they did it WOW, then I also got the
$50.00 rebate and a free printer. plus when I ordered it they gave me a free upgrade to lightscribe dvd burner and windows media, get
dont get any software it is cheaper in the real world same for norton, and any MS stuff. I new all the deals going in the rebates and the coupon because I surfed them out so that allowed me to throw in Xtra's or "upgrades" I stole this thing I just got the your order has been shipped I can't wait. any other Q's feel free but I would not mess with the hard drive, get the coups and save the money and have them do it, if you put it in it will also VIOD your warranty. they can tell if you open it up unless you are very cautious. get the accidental damage it is worth it if dropped or spill coffee or anything else into keyboard. oh more memory is better than less but you prob know that. good luck:) let me know how it worked out for you, and do not forget to look for the coupon, I will give you the code I have if you want it, not sure how long it is good for, but its
$250.00 BUCKS I dont think there will be one for more than that out there, but by all means surf the net for one you never know, before I buy anything I always do that and 75% of the time I find one for whatever I am buying and they are never advertised.
yea i found the coupon. man that's just great. another 250$ off. it'd be a shame if i missed that.
for the call trick, would that work everytime? and i placed the order just now (1.30pm), i can't call them right now, can i? or is it a 24-hours cust service?
for the upgrading thing, i just can't squeeze out an extra 200$. i'm just a poor college freshman. lol. so i'm just hoping that i can upgrade my laptop easily after i have enough money.
