Spyware Dominates Malware Production

It appears that the lone coder writing a virus as an attention-grabbing ploy is being outdone by those criminals with a monetary motive.
"We continue to see a tremendous upswing in spyware and extremely vicious Trojans... Electronic threats are becoming much less of a game and more of a concentrated effort designed to steal identities and data."
If there is a silver lining here, perhaps this trend will spur the authorities to punish all malware authors with something more than a mere slap on the wrist.
