Zeta Disconnect, Part 1 is a science fiction serial by CB Droege. The six chapters of part 1 will be published each Monday on our front page.
“You know what I like best about these briefings?” asked the white bearded, long-faced man. The agent merely raised an eyebrow, so the man in the lab coat continued. “I like that I can tell you the same jokes every time, and you always think that they’re funny.”

Was this on your website some time ago? I have a vague recollection of it. I like it so far.

Yes, portion of the draft was on my showcase site for awhile, but I think very few people saw it there.

I like the boomerang logo. ;)

    Chapter 2 has been published!
“Z-4Q woke and sat up. The room hadn’t changed much. It was dimly lit by emergency lights on the walls. There was a pile of rubble in one corner. There was, of course, no time portal and no team of technicians bustling around. A thick layer of dust covered the floor. He stood up, but was immediately struck by nausea and headache, so he sat back down. He would have to spend a few minutes recovering from the jolt of time-travel. There was a mild feeling of pulling from the inside, all over his body. He knew that this feeling was a result of his connection to his own time, and that the feeling would fade after a few hours, although the connection itself would remain.
    Cheers

I have a feeling there's going to be a big pissed-off dude with bare feet in Z-4Q's future.

AWESOME... Again. I really hope you have tons more of this story ready for print. I'll be mighty ticked if it just ends with a "and he lived happily ever after"

I'm enjoying the story line. I did, however, do a double take when the part about the keyboard sewn into Zaq's pants came up... the people must have thought he was playing pocket pool! :hair: Is that really better than him appearing to talk to himself? Can't the time travel agency afford a throat mic? ;)

Q, I can assure you that it does not end "happily ever after" - though that would be a rather ironic statement in the context of a time travel story. What I gather from CB is that he has the first six chapters submitted, and he's working as hard as he can on the next set, so that he does not leave a long break between publications.

After one-week off for the US holiday, Chapter 4 has been published!

...and it has resulted in a Zeta Disconnect trifecta on the front page :p

Best one yet, I think, though a little too fast-paced. It conveys a sense of urgency, but the descriptions could have gone a little deeper once he dropped in on Sanchez.

I kind-of feel bad that it's taking up the whole front page... Is no one submitting anything else right now?

Well, I guess it's not too bad that Matt has forgotten to post this week's episode again. It gives me a chance to rewrite the next few chapters...

I dropped my pen-drive out of my pocket today, and now my computer wont recognize it... When I shake it, it rattles inside :banghead:

That's where the next chapters of Zeta Disconnect were being stored while I worked on them... :(

At least now, I have an extra week before they are expected to be finished...

Yea... I'm assuming that's the pen drive's way of telling me that I'm not getting my data back...

I thought those things were almost indestructable...

It depends on the brand & model, I suppose. My normal Sandisk drive with the plastic case seems a bit flimsy, but the Sandisk micro with metal case could probably get run over by a car without incident.

I'd recommend cracking open the plastic case to see what is loose - if it's just the USB plug or something, then you could probably solder it back together.
