More Problems For Sony PS3
The Inquirer reports that rumours they have been hearing for a few months now, seem to be backed up by posts on the web site Kotaku.
Although mention is made that the information released by a Sony insider is highly speculative, there have been events that indicate there may just be some truth to the speculation. By now, with just months to release date, debugging should be done, prototypes and development kits should be readily available and all the tame magazines should already have one. The situation is rather different though.
One of a few reasons cited by the Inquirer is size. Apparently the current PS3s are about 50% too large to fit in the sleek but empty boxes they have been showing off. Another, more troubling reason is that Sony is still bidding on components for the boxes. This means the development is far from finished and indicates that debugging will take place right up to the last minute, which is never a good sign. There is also an indication that the clocks may be reduced to 2.8GHz.

Source: Whatever the case, my sources back up Kotaku almost perfectly. Sony looks to have one heck of an expensive Zepplin launching in the jet age. If they toned down the arrogance a notch or 12, and started engaging the parts of the press that aren't sycophantic suck-ups, they might be able to either get their side out, or blunt the oncoming storm. Sadly, in typical fashion, they go charging ahead while large chunks of the spec sheet peel off and land in the gutter behind their victorious advance. I did so want this console to be good.
