Font problem

I've got this jap game in my pc, in which the text is supposed to appear in jap characters. I've installed the language pack on my pc from the WinXP installer (East Asian Languages) and I've changed my settings under the advanced tab of regional & language settings for non-unicode fonts to appear in japanese (the drop down list). The problem is, after doing that, the addresses that appear in my window address bars (for example, C:\My Documents\.....) appear as (C:<the "\" replaced by the japanese currency "yen" symbol). When I changed the non-unicode option back to English (United States), the text in my game appears as either empty spaces or boxes. How should I configure my pc? Or what fonts should I get?

Hmm... not sure I've got the big picture here but I can tell you that, at least as far as Chinese is concerned, having characters in filenames or even paths makes the files unreadable to programs. Apparently it's a bug in versions of Windows other than the total Chinese version.

Okay, maybe i'll explain further. When you open 'My Computer', go into the C: directory, the address in the address bar of the window reads "C:\" doesn't it?

When I changed my settings in the Control Panel/Regional & Language Settings/Advanced to show non-unicode text in Japanese, the "\" symbol gets changed into the jap version of a "\", which is ¥ (the letter 'Y' with 2 lines drawn across it.). The addresses of my directories will look something like this : "C:¥Program Files¥Fonts". With this setting, the Jap game shows it's text without problems.

The problem lies with the "¥" in my directory addresses.

On the other hand, when the Control Panel/Regional & Language Settings/Advanced non-unicode option is set to English, the "\" in the address bar shows as "\", but the Jap text in my game shows up as "<space>" or "□□□□".

Note: Hope you won't be offended by the bolding. Those are the main points that I wanna bring out.
