i'm fighting hard here..... lots of questions

Hi there,

I've been messing with computers for a long time and usually I dont' have any problems resolving spyware as I have a lot of removal programs, ad-aware, spybot, ewido, and hijackthis.

unfortunately, after a few days of trying i can't seem to pin point how to remove 3 problems that my ad-aware constantly picks up and doesn't remove completely. These files never seem to go away and seem to revive each time I turn on my computer.

they are: rxtoolbar, bullguard, p2pnetworking, and this icqlite crap. I mistakenly downloaded kazzalite for the sheer stupidity of listening to my friend and removed this program a long time ago.

any help you guys can give me would be great.. below i have pasted the hijackthis log... I even tried fixing those 5 files that contain the problems listed above and it doesn't really fix them.

thanks! that program removed a lot of lines =)

however rxtoolbar, bullguard, and p2pNetworking (and this icqlite crap) is still there.

I'll never download anything from any peer to peer like icq and kazaa again. =)

  • edited June 2006
sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you.

as far as I can see, I've checked my add/remove list up and down for whatever i can find... if you want i can take a screenie and PM it to you. or whatever.

evidently i have this thing called "SemanticInsight" and when i google it a ton of spyware removal programs come up. nothing seems to be working. =(
  • edited June 2006
right now i'm following this to remove semanticinsight stuff . http://www.scanspyware.net/info/RXBar.htm
  • edited June 2006
icqlite sounds like it could be the messenger ICQ, not sure. Try using an online scanner like panda or TrendMicro.

    TrendMicro:

thanks, and apparently after removing all this stuff the crap seems to rise again. it's like a bad penny that just won't go away! I can't seem to find the root files or lines that would put a stop to all this permanently. =(

these lines won't go away, no matter how many times I delete them from the registry:

    RXToolBar
    SemanticInsight

I ran that http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ you suggested and it seems that ADWARE_BHOT_RXTOOLBAR keeps showing up.

man, i really wonder how the hell i came accross all these. =(

usually downloading files gets it, or if you go to some websites using Internet Explorer, embeded activex controls install things without you knowing. I suggest if you havnt already upgrade to firefox.

    Get Firefox:

no no, a sys restore would just put any spyware he got off back on there as its obviously backed up in the restore file cache...but wanu...could you please generate a add/remove list using HJT heres how open up HJT main screen then click on misc tools then uninstall manager then save list and post it here as txt file please :)
