Nvidia claims that software developers using its new "NVPerfHUD 4" performance analysis tool will be able to speed up the graphics performance of their applications by about 35% on average. The new debugging heads-up display (HUD) program for Direct3D applications (DirectX 9.0c) is part of Nvidia's "NVPerfKit 2" suite of performance tools for software and game development and allows developers to debug and profile applications by using data from the application, driver, API, and GPU, Nvidia said.
The software is available for download from Nvidia's website and works with Geforce 6, 7 and Quadro FX graphics processors. Older chips are "supported with reduced functionality," according to Nvidia.
We have yet to see how this will help the every day consumer.

Stuff wont be so bloated and slow so you won't need such uber hardware to run it... well, theoretically anyway.

I just wish more focus would be put into OpenGL. MS is trying to phase out OGL entirely which means games will be harder to port and thus less likely to be ported to other OSs (OSX, Linux, BSD).

OGL is huge for my world in garphics, but TBH I have been using DirectX ( in all my programs knowing that OGL was going away...

Sweet! Will we be seeing this in current games(patched) or only games in development?

I highly doubt developers will make patches around this.. Maybe Blizzard will and a few others for really popular games. But I think it is aimed at new games coming out.

I like OpenGL thank you. I see no reason why we cant have both, but M$ just wants to make their technology the only one that is used. I welcome the performance increase, but come on.

    I seriously prefer OGL.

Well ...DirectX10 will have some crappy OpenGl emulation or something. 3dlabs is throwing in the towel on it's efforts as far as professional cards go. I suppose all of the professional software packages will get converted to DX10 compatability. We'll see what happens I suppose but I'm not thrilled.

So... I am a bit lost, I thought OpenGL was an Open Source API for graphics which ran independently from DirectX, DirectDraw and whatever names the MS API ran on. Why would OGL have any trouble on Vista? Am I correct in assuming MS is forcing DirectX 10 for it?
