DVD drive incosistent reading, why?

edited June 2006 in Hardware
Greetings,

Sometimes my DVD will read a DVD-R and sometimes it will not. If I go to my computer, the DVD drive will appear empty even though there is a DVD (that is not blank) within it. Why is this?

After trying the same DVD-R a million times, it might read. But if I take the DVD out and try to use it on another ocassion it will not read.

This has happened with a few DVD-Rs that I own, and has never happened with a DVD that was not a DVD-R. Thanks for the assistance!!!

B;.

It sounds like you have a bad DVD-ROM.
