Half-Life 2 leaked source code compiled and running

edited October 2003 in Science & Tech
It has been reported that a number of websites have now successfully compiled the upcoming game Half-Life 2, or at least parts of it, based on the recently leaked source code. Many of the websites that appear to have compiled the game have warned that the compiled source code may contain some viruses.

[blockquote]In short, confusion still reigns about the whole Valve/Half Life 2 affair, with a promised statement still failing to materialise, as far as we can tell.
[/blockquote]
So it seems the whole Half-Life 2 saga isn't going to die down any time soon, and it is now obvious that this whole mess is only really serving to do one thing, and that's delay the games official release.

nVidia got dissed because their FX-series cards are born from piss-poor engineering, riding on the fundamental principle of rushed products in the face of renewed competition of an exemplary calibre.

Ergo, nVidia got caught with their pants down.

thinks that Jengo uses a GeForce FX. :)

NVidia really under-estimated the adoption of DirectX 9.0 and didn't have a high-level shader language to program in when they first designed the FX series. Hence, they had to come up with a high-level shader language and Cg (C for Graphics) was born.

Problem is that when ATI designed their DX9 parts, an industry-wide high-level shader language was designed by Microsoft: HLSL. ATI designed their shaders to operate on this language and we are now seeing the results.

    Standards are good :)

As for Valve, it makes great business sense to go with a winning card, whether or not it's "dissing" the graphics market leader. Why would Valve bundle their kick-ass software with a lackluster, underperforming, overpriced silicon scrap-heap, when they could run with ATI cards that fully support industry standards? :)

1 The Revelation of Short-Media, which the Administrators gave unto him, to make known to his servants the things which must shortly come to pass: and signified, sending by his EULA to their members,

2 Who hath given testimony to the word of the EULA and the testimony of the Administrators, what things soever he hath seen.

3 Blessed is he that readeth and heareth the words of this prophecy: and keepeth those things which are written in it. For the time is at hand.

4 The Administrators to the post which is herein. Grace be unto you and peace, from him that is and that was and that is to come: and from the S-M sin which thou hath committed:

5 And from the Administrators, who are the faithful witnesses, the first begotten of the violators and the violator of the rules of the Short-Media, who hath loved us and warned us from posting such posts

6 And hath made us a kingdom, and super moderators to these four and Sarcnet. To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.

7 Behold, he cometh with the binary, and every eye shall see him: and they also that pierced him. And all the tribes of Short-Media shall bewail themselves because of Them. Even so. Amen.

8 They are Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, saith the The Administrators, who are and who were and who are to come, the Almighty.

9 I, Thrax, your brother and your partner in tribulation and in the kingdom and patience in Short-Media, was in the island which is called Liquid's Post, for the word of the Administrators and for the testimony of a Moderator.

10 I was in the spirit on the Admin's day and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

11 Saying: What thou seest, write in a post and berate you sinner for your misdeeds

12 And I turned to see the poster that typed with me. And being turned, I saw Administrators three:

13 And in the midst of the Administrators three, one small and fair, clothed with clothing not of these states, and devices metallic amongst his skin

14 And his head we knew not, for it was covered with a cap. His eyes we knew not by picture.

15 And his typing was both short-hand and long. Eloquent and abrupt.

16 And he had in his right hand a mouse. And from his mouse came out a sharp post. And his post was as the sun shineth in his power.

17 And when I had seen him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying: Fear not. I am the First and the Last,

18 And alive, and was dead. And behold I am living for ever and ever and have the keys of death and of hell.

19 Write therefore the things which thou hast seen: and which are: and which must be done hereafter.

20 The mystery of the post which violates the EULA, which thou sawest from LIQuid. The two of Half-Life. Which mention thou shalt not.

    Amen.

It's humour. I apologize for it not being funny. It was to me...

We're not allowed to talk about having or playing Half-Life 2. Preemptive moderation a few times has shown how sensitive an issue it is with the administration. I felt the few times it's occurred, it's been overly-dramatic and overstated. So I applied fully biblical terms about the coming of the Apocalypse in regards to people talking about playing HL2. Get it now? It's satire.

    And **** you, Deke. Idiot.
