Password protected 2000

So, my brother has a laptop with a car tuning program that he needs. Well....hes forgotten the password and I have no hope that he'll remember it.

So, is there a way to get into this thing? Its running windows 2000.

    Boot safe mode and try the administrator account?
    Download and run Knoppix STD's admin password recovery tools?
