Multilane Back plane

I have a 12 port raid card and not enough room for 12 hard drives, so i was think ing if i could use a 4 sata to multilane backplane connector like this sas-multilane-adapter-LbracketSM.jpg

and connect it to a external multilane enclosure like this one:

    I would have thought so, seems to be the same connecter and it looks like logically, that's exactly what they're made for.

    Just out of interest, which RAID card do you have? I'm after one myself.
