Problem with DVDR (Win XP)
Hello,
My DVDR (Plextor DVDR 708-A) isn't working properly. It reads CDs/DVDs just fine, but will not write anything. I have used the troubleshooting utility in Win XP as well as uninstalled and reinstalled the drive several times with hardware device manager. Nothing works. When looking at the drive's properties it is listed as "DVD/CD-ROM drives." However, when I'm in My Computer I notice that it is listed as a "CD Drive." This is perplexing since I removed my CD drive months ago and the DVDR is the only CD/DVD drive on my machine. Below are some more details regarding my DVDR from the properties view in device manager. Does anyone have any ideas how I can make Win XP recognize that my DVDR is in fact a DVDR? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,

I've had this problem before, or at least something that sounds very similar. It seemed to happen when changing over rom drives. First to ascertain if it was the same problem, go to device manager and right click on the dvd drive. Now click disable. Wait a couple of seconds then repeat the process, however this time enable the drive. Now exit the device manager and see if your preferred programs now recognise the drive.
Also, when you changed over drives did you remove the old rom drive from your tower altogether and secondly have you made sure that the jumper settings on the back of the dvd rom are set correctly?
It was a while ago when I encountered this problem so I hope I can be of some help.........by the way, what are your system specs (ie processor speed and ram etc.)
Speak to you soon.......
