trying install windows xp, no hdd O_O

alright, my freind got a virus and got ****ed over. so he formatted but his windows xp had a huge scartch in it and wouldnt work.

so he installed windows 98 for time being. now hes at my house and were trying get windows xp back on it. problem is everytime we boot from disk and go in to formata nd install it says

setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer


his harddrive is plugged in, its not ide cable tho, its one i never seen before.. but i havent used any newer harddrives. its a small like cable ALOT smaller than IDE but flat.

so does anyone know what to do?

    Install his sata drivers (Push F6 when prompted and insert the disk with his sata drivers on it)

    i have the sata drivers on floppy. hit f6, load windows xp ones. but still tells me there is no drive.. i dont get it.
