3 sets of speakers from one 5.1 sound card/chip - is it possible?

edited July 2006 in Hardware
Hi there,

I have an Asus A8N SLI premium Mobo with built in sound.

I want to have 3 pairs of speakers in 3 different rooms each playing the same sound/mp3 at the same time so nothing overly technical.

Is it possible I can use 3 of the 5.1 outputs that come with the Mobo to be set to either stereo or mono outputs so I can acheive this?

If not anyone any other ideas or know of a soundcard that will do this?

Thanks,

Mickey

what you could do,..is plug in a 3 way splitter (or two two way splitters) into the front speaker output... then its a straight shot from there

    Yeh, follow the KISS rule.

Just get 2 - 2 way splitters, or one three way spliter and do it that way, and you shouldnt run into any problems, although, im not sure what that will do to the impedance loads or if that even matters since it is only a pre-out.

You need to watch out, there are current limits. You need to keep the system resistance about right, so be careful of the series-parallel connections.

You might consider getting a cheap amp or even a receiver, then run the output from your sound card into it. You'll want to keep the gain low on the soundcard.

You could then run the speakers right off the amp.
