My friend Living Dead Child has a $500 budget. I referred him here so that the "experts" can configure the best system that he can get for the money. Prove my point that you guys will be able to throw the best system possible together for that amount of money. :)

So, with that in mind:

Tower Case
500 watt Power Supply
Athlon Processor
Good motherboard (preferable Asus)
1Gig of RAM.

LDC: What about a video card. Are you gonna need one?

What about cdrom/dvd, floppy and hard drive? Do these count in the $500 total or does he have them already?

I am not worrying about the video card till after the new year. I will be playing Doom3 and Half-Life 2.

I have the hard drives and cd-roms and such.

    Thank you

So it is safe to not include, the keyboard, mouse, monitor, os etc...? Are you looking for a decent video card to hold you over or what? What is this system going to be used for? any overclocking at all?

just go with the good old 2500+ with a slk900, an enermax 92mm adjustable fan, a nf7-s revision2 (or get the newer one that abi will be shipping out in a month of so) as for power supply, you should look on ebay for an antec 500w true power, they have em for like 100 or so...as for RAM, since he doesnt wanna spend too much, get geil pc3200...with the voltage capabilities of the nf7 there shouldnt be a problem getting it to perform in dual mode
