Virus has killed my PC, dead

edited August 2006 in Spyware & Virus Removal
My computer got absolutely hammered by a virus I had to reinstall Windows XP to get it back on line. Perfect! Except now the drivers for my Plexwriter 402040A CDWR Drive and my Plextor PX-708A DVD Writer don't work.

Windows had trouble installing the drivers and so I cannot use them. Bizarre, considering the OS had to use the drives to load itself. I tried going on the Plextor site and getting the drivers but there's just something called Firmware which I tried to install but I can't.! Why? It doesn't recognise the drives because the drivers are faulty!! Arrrrgh!!! :banghead:

Now, when I turn the PC on I can't even see anything during the BOOT or after. My monitor remains blank as if it is not connected. This is really weird because I would have thought that that was a hardware problem (nothing a virus could effect).

Please help ,someone! Although I doubt if anyone can now I can't even see what going on. This is to be the worse virus ever. I'm thinking about wiping my harddisk and starting again. Is that the answer?

When you say it doesn't look like the screen is connected, is the connection or power light on on the monitor? Check your monitor to CPU connection. How far does it let you go, or is it just a constant black screen? By the way this should be under boot problems, but until someone moves it I'll help you here.

Thanks but I'm now at the stage where I have reinstalled Windows. Only now none of ny drivers work so I am unable to access internet or any CD/DVD drives.
