Stereo Left Performance/Right accompaniment

edited August 2006 in Internet & Media
Hello,

Is there a way tp put a different audio channel in a stereo .wav or .MP3

I have the two seperate audio .MP3 (Performance and accompaniment), and want build the split track CD like other professional CD's we have purchased.

I am trying to create a split track Stereo .mp3 or .wav file with the Left channel having the actual Performance vocal with accompaniment audio and the Right channel having only the accompaniment audio.

Is there a way to join these two files so one of the stereo tracks contains the other audio?

This is so I can burn a CD which I can use for practice by listening to the original performer sing the song, and then when I perform it myself at church, I can turn the left channel audio down and only hear the accompaniment.

Thanks

Rob

This may not work, but I can't see why it wouldn't.... open two seperate MP3 players (ie: winamp and windows media player) and open one track in each. Now set the graphic equalizer balance in media player all the way to the left and the balance in winamp all the way to the right. play both tracks and use the volume control in media player / winamp to control the relative level of each track. Now if you use something like audacity to record what's playing you should get the winamp track on the right channel and the media player track on the left. I'm sure there's a more elegant way to do this but I don't know a lot about recording software so....meh :)

unfortunately this is not a simple process to get decent results. if you were to record the performance on one channel and the backing on the other it wouldn't sound great. If you want a profesional sound you need professional software. You will also probably find synchronisation problems to. If you want to send them to me I will have a play and see what I can do. change the file extensions to .txt so they will get through my work firewall and add them to a zip archive and PM them to me. P.S. Please don't send uncompressed .wav files as they are to big. Can you convert to mp3. Thanks

Hey, I was given the solution.

It turns out that the program "Audacity" found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ can import multiple stereo audio files and split them apart and combine two mono into a stereo.

    Thanks for the help guys.
