Keeping a WD1200JB spinning

edited July 2006 in Hardware
hey ppl, i need to keep my hard drive spinning no matter what.....
I have tried everthing in my power, but the hard drive will spin down after a minute or two as it recognises there is nothing on the hard drive, and that indeed the IDE cable isnt even plugged in.
I know you will probs say im an idiot, and why i need the HDD to spin if its not even connected, but i need to experiment on the platters themslefs when they are spinning (this is for some reasearch). Yes the HDD is already open, so i doubt i will be able to re-read it, but then again it has already died on me, so its formated.
The disk im trying to experiment on is WD1200JB 00DUA0, made on the 21st of dec 2002. (120GB, if anyone didnt figure it out :p)
Do any of you know any prog, or shorting of the IDE card, or any other solution that may keep the motor spinning eventho its not connected?
And although this may asking a bit too much, does anyone know a way to control the speed of the spindle motor?
thanx for your help
