I'm looking for a card for a Athlon 3500 computer I got.
Which exactly would be better? I've been behind lately in the world of PC hardware.

I plan to run at no more than 1280x1024, play the newest games, and have settings on high with AA and AF.

    The 7600GT should give you slightly better performance. Also the 7600GT is DX9.0c & SM3.0 whereas the X850XT is DX9.0b & SM2.0.

    TechReport 7900GTX & 7600GT Review pg7

The X1800GTO in the article is similar in performance to the X850XT

except for the fact that he said 7600GT, which would probably still be better, and yes, the new gen will have SM3, HDR, Dx9c, and others.

Typo - I was referring to the 7600GT. The 7900GT is FAR above the X850XT in performance

The 7900GT is only ~$260 Not that expensive for the performance. About equal to the $600 550mhz 7800GTX that were all the rage last Dec/Jan
