After looking at the umpteen-million things you could try, I think it it would be quicker to just do a Repair Install. If you need help with that, just yell. :)

I am also receiving this fatal error. I have Norton Utilities 2006 and only receive this situation when I attempt to perform an Ad-Aware Scan of my system. I receive a WINLOGON.EXE program error then the blue screen displaying the fatal C000021a error. The system then shuts down and restarts. I am certain I have a popup virus and have been using a temporary work-around by editing my hosts file, but the virus is still there and quite annoying. Norton is unable to detect it and I have ran VundoFix.exe, which finds nothing. I am unsure which items in Hijack This log are the culprits. Your expertise would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sage

Your file-system is corrupt. I've only been able to solve this issue by backing up data and reformatting the drive, an issue that can not be fixed by a repair install. The symptoms are exactly the same:

Safe mode loads. The C000021a error referencing winlogon. Nothing working to fix the issue, chkdsk doesn't work etc.

I wasn't kidding about there being a whole lot of potential "fixes" for this problem. If the Repair Install won't do it (and I'd say that it's at least worth a try), then trying to salvage your data and starting from scratch is likely to be the quickest solution in the long run. If you were to try everything suggested in the link above it might take you a week to go through it all - with no guarantee of success.

There are a couple of fishy items in your HijackThis log, but I think that is a separate issue from the C000021A fatal error you are experiencing. You need to start a new thread over in our Spyware/Virus/Trojan Discussion Forum and post a new log there. Make sure you read through the posting guidelines there so that it will be easier for our SVT Swat Team to help you.

    Good luck. :)

That's often the easiest way to go. I'm glad she had hung on to her discs. :)
