I need a Liverpool Techie to solve an MSN IM problem

My friends in Liverpool have an MSN IM problem I have not seen anywhere else. Often times they are unable to write in the dialogue box. They can see the cursor and can cut and paste from Word or Notepad, but cannot see anything they physically type. Neither can I. Is this something peculiar to UK MSN?

All assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Nope, tried it from home and work and my MSN works fine. Sounds like a client issue more than a system issue.
