Unable to install Windows XP

My computer messed up one day. It just started restarting over and over, so I stuck in my windows xp disc and reformated my hard drive and then entered the setup for windows xp. Well setup is running fine until it gets to about 18% I believe and it said unable to copy dm.dls (I think that was the name file). I hit enter to retry about a dozen times to no avail. My only other option besides exiting setup was to skip it, so I did. Well things continued smoothly all the way through setup. It reached 100% and rebooted and everything was normal. I entered the installation for windows xp and it said it would take approxmaitly 39 minutes. I am sitting there waiting and after about a minute a blue screen comes up and says all kinds of stuff. But near the top it says windows is restarting to protect your files etc and I see PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. All I can do is restart my computer. I do. Instalation starts again and I have the same problem. No matter how many times I reformat my hard drive and go through the setup and installation there is always that file it can not copy and that same blue screen during instalation. If you could I would be very greatful.

I do not know if it helps but here is the specs for my computer:
Model: Compaq Presario R3000
Processor:Intel Pentium 4, 3.4GHz with HT technology
Memory: 1.12 GB
Video card: ATI Radeon 9000
Hard drive size:80GB
