hey guys...need some help for an old gang cop

hello fellow geeks. my name is phill and i was asked by my mentor for some help with his computer.

pentium 3
ton of memory

works fine mostly
but recently he was telling me that he was having to constantly shut down the computer because it was crashing leaving only the desktop but not allowing the computer to start any additional programs.

i ctrl alt delete'd so i could look at the cpu usage...it starts off normally then spikes and flatlines to 100% of the cpu. i looked at the processes and it listed svchost.exe as using 99-100% of the cpu.

i ran the standard tests(i have all the updated versions)

cleanup
adaware
spybot
avgfree

a few hits and fixes but not the major problem...

then i ran hijack this and i saved this log.

Note:log was attained while the svchost.exe was still running. to run the previous tests(spybot......etc) i had to end that process to allow the programs to run.

here is the log:

Whenever the dektop is the only thing left, check in the runnning processes if explorer.exe is running, because it sounds like the thing shutting down is Explorer. Go here to download ewido http://www.grisoft.cz/softw/70/filedir/inst/ewido-setup_4.0.0.172c.exe
Update it, run a complete system scan, apply all actions, save a log file, and post it.

If explorer.exe is not running go to file, run, and type in explorer.exe and tell me if that fixes the problem, or if it crashes again.
