Can't Connect To Internet Unless It's Through Router

Everything was going well until the last moment, when everything fell apart. I can't seem to be able to connect to the internet unless it's through the Linksys Router. I don't know what went wrong here. Before the router I could connect without a problem. Now after I disconnect it and just run the connection from the dsl modem to the desktop, it won't connect. Not even my laptop will connect, even though it says Connected. So, for now I hate this router, till I can figure out how to connect to the internet without it. Somebody help please!

It could be that your DSL Modem is set as a bridge, if it uses PPPoE then it could be that the router is signing into the DSL which then allows the connected computers to connect to the internet.
So if that is the case, you need to log into the DSL modem when it's attached to the computer(login info may be on a sticker on the modem), set it for PPPoE and put in your username and password.
I'm betting you're on a cable modem that will only attach to one MAC address. Right now it knows the MAC address of your Linksys Router and anything else you connect to it won't work. If you unplug your cable modem for a minute or two, then plug it back in it will look for the first Ethernet device you connect to it. Whatever the MAC address of that device will be what it looks for.
It's the way it's supposed to work. In fact some ISP's make you jump through a few more hoops to change to a device with a different MAC address.
If I'm right the problem isn't your router or any computer you're plugging in. It's the cable modem. You usually can't just plug and unplug them from various devices.
