Firewall ??

edited August 2006 in Hardware
I run a Belkin f5d7633-4 with the specs:

Firewall and Security Features

* Stateful Packet Inspection Firewall
- Filter on source and /or destination IP address/port value
- Defends router against denial-of-service (DoS) attacks
- Intrusion detection

Both PCs are connected via nic should I also be running Nortons firewall as well ??

    Your router has NAT so you don't need another firewall. I have said before but anything Norton I have ever had on my PC has caused more probs than it ever fixed.

    Bothered is right! The best kind of security is one provided by a router, as anyone who goes looking for your IP address (Your unique identifier to the outside world) will get nothing but a stupid device you bought for ~$70 at a store. They, without some serious effort on the part of your attacker, render your PC invisible to the outside world.

    Keep the router, and focus on virus/spyware protection. Skip the software firewall.
