SiS vs ICH6/7?

edited August 2006 in Hardware
I'm hoping you guys can help me out with something I've been curious about for a couple years.

I bought an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium motherboard two years ago. I set it up initially with a RAID 0 config, because I wanted better performance.

This board comes with 2 separate RAID controllers built in for the sATA. One is built on the Intel ICH6R and the 2nd uses the Silicon Image 3114R RAID controller.

My question is... what are the differences between the 2? I know the SiS supports RAID 5, whereas the Intel only supports 0 and 1... but all I use is 0 for now. Is the SiS a better controller? And when it says "Software RAID", is that only referring to the RAID 5 mode specifically?

I'd like to also know the difference between a newer SiS RAID and the new Intel ICH7R controller.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks all!
