cable modem won't work with ethernet

Hi everyone. I just moved and am having issues setting up my cable broadband service (I am using Mediacom in IL). I previously had roadrunner (Time-Warner) service and didn't have any problems setting up a wireless network with it. With Mediacom I can get online using the USB connection, but not the ethernet connection. The modem is RCA DCM425. I am not even attempting to use the router yet. My motherboard is MSI Neo Platinum 4 and it has 2 ethernet ports on it (Marvell LAN). I can't remember what one I was using with roadrunner. When I try to use the ethernet connection in one port (not using USB simultaneously) Windows XP Pro says that I have a network cable unplugged. Which it is not. In the other port it seems like it is going to work, but then Windows will say that it has "limited connectivity". I've tried to "repair the connection" and it is unable to get a new IP address. I don't know if the previous network that was set up on it is causing problems or my computer just coincidentally screwed up when I moved or it is Mediacom's fault. I've called Mediacom a couple of times already for the tv and they seriously put you on hold for an hour, so I would like to get more info on the problem before possibly calling them. Please help if you can.

Thanks

Jaime

Well, nevermind. I just tried using the ethernet connection (for the umpteenth time) and it worked! I then hooked up my router and that also works. Yay!!
