Ive left a copy of HJT pls help me solve the problem, my computer keeps freezing and i dont know why.

    Hi Maggie, I can't see anything bad in your log.

    Some questions:

    1) How long has the freezing been going on for? Does it freeze at a certain point or is it randomly freezing?

    2) What are your system specs?

    3) How long have you had Norton for?

    its been happening for a while, and it randomly freezes
    2) What are your system specs?
    what is specs?

    ive had it for a while but the subscription has recently ended.

    The random freezing maybe a Hardware problem. We can do a scan or two soon.

    Specs = Specification. Go to Start, and right-click My Computer >> select Properties. Under the long list of numbers, tell me what is written please.

    I strongly suggest we remove Norton, for two main reasons. 1) Its not very good, and even harder to get rid of. 2) If the subscription has ended, then your computer is not propected.

    So, please post the specifications of your computer from the instructions given above and do this:
    • Run Hijackthis.
    • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
    • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
    • Press the Save list button. It will open a Notepad file.
    • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

    As you may know your computer could use a little upgrade. 256MB of RAM is a bit low, in my opinion.

    Lets remove Norton and get some better programs installed. :)

    Before we do, you should download an Anti-Virus and Firewall before-hand. Download one of each from the list below (they are all Free!) and save the files to your desktop. DO NOT install them yet, just keep the installation files on your desktop.

    AV

    Firewall
    Zone Alarm << I recommend this

    Outpost Firewall

    Click Start > Run > type in appwiz.cpl and hit enter. From the list uninstall the following, if present:

    Search Assistant - My Search
    Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3     << old version. Download the latest version from here
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
    Viewpoint Media Player

    Remove the above first, and then remove the following Norton entries.

    Norton AntiVirus 2005
    Norton AntiVirus 2005 (Symantec Corporation)
    Norton AntiVirus Help
    Norton AntiVirus Parent MSI
    Norton AntiVirus SYMLT MSI
    Norton WMI Update
    Symantec
    Symantec Script Blocking Installer
    SymNet

    Reboot your computer once all the Norton entries have been removed, and then install the Anti-Virus and Firewall that you downloaded earlier.


    Once this is all done, post a new HijackThis log, along with a new Uninstall list please. :)
