You have a nasty infection on your computer.
    • Download UnHackMe 3.1.
    • Install the program and accept the default options.
    • Once UnHackMe is installed, open it and click on the Check tab at the top.
    • Now click on the "Check Me Now!" button
    • If anything is found, a new page will show. Click Stop! >> Exit >> reboot your computer!
    • If nothing is found, just click Exit at the bottom
A tutorial on how to use UnHackMe to remove the infecton you have.

Please run the tool twice to make sure the infection has been fully removed.

Post a new HijackThis log once done.

    Download Rootkit Revealer.
    • Create a folder Rootkit Revealer in the following location C:\
    • Unzip to this folder.
    • Close ALL other open programmes, files and folders.
    • Click on RootkitRevealer.exe to launch the programme.
    • Click Scan, and allow it to scan your computer.

You may get a warning from your protection systems that a new service is being installed, this will have a random name, and is generated by Rootkit revealer, allow it please.

IMPORTANT: other than to allow the above event, do not touch your computer while the scan is running, as this will generate false reports.

When the scan is finished, click File > Save, and save RootkitRevealer.txt to your C:\Rootkit Revealer folder.

Copy the log to your next post please, along with a new HijackThis log

    Lets try this:
    • Download AIMFix from here. Save the file to your desktop.
    • Close down AIM completely
    • Open AIMFix on your desktop, and let the tool run.
    • Follow the instructions when to press Enter to exit
This should fix your AIM problem.

    =====

Let's fix your Hacker Defender problem.
    • Download Microsofts Malicious Software Removal Tool. Save the file to your desktop.
    • Close ALL programs and windows.
    • Open Tool you just downloaded.
    • Choose to run a Full Scan and press Next
    • Do not use the computer while the tool is running.
    • Follow the instructions once the scan has finished.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log. :)

I know its not my post, but I received a similiar instant message and was wondering if I get the virus from clicking on the link, or if I actually have to click to download the file. I clicked the link, but immediately closed it as I did not mean to click the link, it was an unexpected message while I was playing a game. Just wondering.

BostonBoy, I suggest running AIMFix just to be sure everything is clear.

ackaite, good job on removing Hacker Defender. There are some entries we need to remove, but before doing that can you tell me what AIMFix and Microsofts tool found, if anything please.

ackaite, thanks for the log. Did you download Microsofts Malicious Software Removal Tool? I'm kinda surprised that AIMFix managed to remove the Hacker Defender infection.

Could you please scan with RookitReavler again, and post the log. I need to see that log please. :)

I'l be away for a day or two, so I won't be able to respond until I get back. :)

Hi ackaite, thanks for the log! Lets continue...

I don't see any indication of a Firewall in your HijackThis log. This may be because:

(1.) You are using Windows Firewall or a hardware Firewall.
(2.) You are using a Firewall of an unknown vendor.
(3.) You are using a Firewall, but it is disabled for unknown reasons
(4.) You don't use any firewall at all.

In the case you don't have a Firewall, please download one from below - They are Free!

Zone Alarm << I recommend this
    Sunbelt Kerio PF
    Outpost Firewall

Not having a Firewall was probably the cause of the Hacker Defender infection.

    =====

We need to DISABLE Spyware Doctor's realtime protection and Windows Defender as they may interfere with the fix.

    Spyware Doctor
    • Open Spyware Doctor
    • Click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
    • Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".
    • Exit the program.
    Windows Defender
    1) Open Windows Defender.
    2) Click on Tools > General Settings.
    3) Scroll Down and Uncheck Turn on real-time Protection (recommended).
    4) After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
    5) Right click on the Windows Defender icon on the taskbar and select Exit.

Note: You can enable the protection, once we have finished the cleaning process!

    =====

We need to download some tools for use later:

    1) Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop. Do not use it yet!

    2) Please download Killbox and save it to your desktop. Do not use it yet!

    3) Please download Ewido to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.
    http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
    • Install Ewido by double clicking the installer.
    • Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch Ewido is checked.
    • On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
      • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.
      • Next to Last Update, click on Update now. (You will need an active internet connection to perform this)
      • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
Note: If the Update now option is grayed out, follow the steps below.
        • Click on Update on the toolbar.
        • Under Manual update, click on the Start Update button.
        • Wait until you see the Update succesfull message.
    • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    Ewido manual updates.
Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that Ewido is closed before installing the update.

    =====

    Open HijackThis
    - Click the Do a system scan only button
    - Check the following entries (below)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ms04057509542] C:\WINDOWS\ms04057509542.exe

    - Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)

IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
      • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
      • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)
        scan1nx.jpg

    A few things to do.

    1) HijackThis is in the Temp folder, where we do not want it. Please uninstall it through Add/Remove programs, and then Click here to download HJTsetup.exe to your desktop. Run HJTsetup.exe and follow the instructions. This will install HijackThis to the Program Files folder. Please use this HijackThis from now on.

    2) Can you enable everything on startup. Ask me how if you do not know.

    3) Please post an Uninstall list.

    :)

    In more detail...

    1) Click Start > Run > type in appwiz.cpl and hit enter. From the list uninstall the following, if present:

    HijackThis 1.99.1

    2) Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
    Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Close HijackThis for now
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    3) Go to Start > Run > type in: msconfig and press OK
    Go to the Startup tab
    Click on Enable All
Press Apply > Close > Restart

Once restarted, a message box will popup...just check the box and press OK

    4) Now, post a new HijackThis log, along with an Uninstall list by doing the following:
    • Run Hijackthis.
    • Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
    • Next click on Open uninstall manager.
    • Press the Save list button. It will open a Notepad file.
    • Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.
