I've used and liked Pinnacle Studio 9... or you could try the free version of Avid Free DV, don't let the free fool you, it's pretty damned good, if it works. The last time I used it a couple years ago it wouldn't run properly. But I would bet it should work by now.

I use Premiere Pro, and if you use any of the professional programs, that were targeted for pros, there is going to be a steep learning curve on it, especially the more advanced features. If all you have used it windows movie maker, going to premiere might be a bit hard for you. I have 4 years video experience, and adobe is what I learned on.

I've also used pinnacle on occasion, it is not as powerful, but much more user friendly. I think you would like it better.

One I tried was Pinnacle Studio 9 and it was fair at best. It used to crash fairly often and it wouldn't do menus. I ended up with Roxio Easy Media Creator. Far better prog with a whole suite of excellent progs. It'll do animated menus, has lots of transitions, has a sound editor, it seems to do everything and has never crashed on me. It could be a little more user friendly but a bit of experimenting soon gets to grips with it.
