'ipconfig /all' not working. Cant conncet to anything - any ideas????

edited August 2006 in Science & Tech
Hi,

Can anyone help me here.

When I type cmd then ipconfig /all in the command box of my shuttle all as I get is returned to the next comand propt, IE no IP information at all. However is I mis type a command it tells me I have done so so I know I havent done that

My router/switch shows me it is getting a signal from my shuttle PC as a light is on on the router and if I remove the ethernet connection this light goes off acordingly, so all cabling correct.
When I type the IP of my router into explorer nothing loads in either.

Needless to say I cannot connect up to the internet or my home network.

I have re installed MCE to see if this helps so this is a clean install with no fire wall or anyother software on the drive. Im running service pack one but have 2 on hand, just can't be bothered to move forward whislt it made no diff last time.

This problem is ONLY with this one particular PC, my shuttle running XP MCE.

Has anyone any clue as I am left scratching my head here and your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mickey:confused:

Weird Mickey. You're right. If you mistyped it you get an error telling you the command is not recognized or something like that.

I've never seen that but I can reproduce it on my computer if.......all network adapters are disabled. In that scenario there is no IP information so it gives me one line that says "Windows IP configuration", then on the next line is a new C: prompt. Even if there was no cable plugged in to your enabled network adapter, ipconfig /all would show "Media disconnected" and at least give you the MAC address of the adapter.

If you go to Control Panel> Network Connections, right click on your connecection. If "Enable" is in bold letters and "status" is greyed out, the network adapter is disabled. You might also check Device Manager and make sure your network adapter shows and there are no problems.

Mtrox I think you've cracked it inadvertantly.

I think with shuttles you need to install the ethernet port.

Ill test it out when I get home and update thread to let you know.

Do'h in the words of Mr Simpson would be fitting:)

Inadvertant is right. I missed the "shuttle" reference....but I think you connected the dots right.
