New Version of Radeon 9600XT Coming?

edited October 2003 in Science & Tech
According to the good ol' Inquirer, the current crop of Radeon 9600XT reviews are obsolete. Why? Because ATI managed to find some extra headroom in the RV350 VPU and are changing the specifications of the Radeon 9600XT to position it as a more competitive product against NVidia's upcoming GeForce FX 5700 (NV36).

[blockquote]WELL, all the reviews of the Radeon 9600XT that you saw starting yesterday could easily be false, since ATI did one more respin on its chip before sending it to manufacturers just yesterday.

The Radeon 9600XT is not that much faster than the old Radeon 9600 PRO and certainly not faster than Hexus' NV36 FX 5700, but we hear that ATI has plans to fix this.

It seems that they have silicon that can run faster than the one currently being reviewed all over the net.

Just to remind you, there were a lot of samples of the Radeon 9600 PRO around at Cebit time but they were redrawn simply because Nvidia had a faster offering at the time. ATi then miraculously found some headroom on the RV350 chip to make it run faster. [/blockquote]
Fact or fiction? You be the judge.
