Compaq Presario 2111AP video and bios modification
hi all!
i have a compaq presario notebook 2111AP; the bios details are:
BIOS Date: 12/17/02
BIOS Type: PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
BIOS ID: Hewlett-Packard Presario 2100 BIOS Version: KE.M1.54
i recently winphlashed it for VERSION: KE.M1.73
Compaq for their own wisdom, have disabled the standard options of the user; the only thing possible is 1) select the boot seq; change the password and reset to company default!
i have made the machine a multiboot for dos O/S; and i find that the machine starts with a smaller window (EGA) and when i try to run the standard old dos games in Pure dos environment, the screen is just too small;
there is no stretch or video selection mode during bootup; DOS MSD gives the video correctly as ATI RS200M with Vesa 2.0.
i have three questions to the experienced guys!
1) any TSR available (that runs over the Vesa 2.0 ) to select the screen resolution and keeps the same during subsequent game session? (i used vmode to select mode 106h; but when i start the game it reverts to the smaller size!)
2) is the video part is in the main bios or there is separate video bios for this; Windows identifies the Display as ATI IGP340M (RS200M) card;but i am not able to get the separate video bios backedup using ATI utilities. HWINFO lists the video bios as BK5.0.0VR001.000.007.004.014.000.001.001 mskt7.hp v611; is this part of the main BIos?
3) when i use the bios editior the PBE shareware version, it opens the wph (except for the module o) and lists display1.rom in the project table. but this rom module on selecting has the option of only "Change rom" with a newer rom. is the vesa2 is resident in this Display rom? if so vesa 3.0 rom available?
i contacted compaq (they helped me in upgrading the bios. beyond that they are as helpless as i am!
suggestions and advice requested
cheers
